This was the kind of day when you pack for all four seasons, thankfully it turned out to be a really lovely day in yet another beautiful part of the peninsula. With the tide out and rockpools at the ready, the kids hit the rocks on the hunt for all things creepy and crawly, crabs being a definate favourite!
Everyone had a lovely day on the rocks and on the beach and picnicing and eventually, swimming. Looking forward to more lovely days at the beach next year. It was a superb day to be out in such a beautiful location. The grounds of the homestead are so cool and refreshing on a hot day (how nice to lay down under the stunningly huge Ginko tree in the garden with my wee baby). The lagoons were full to the brim with water and bird life, we had some great views from the bird hides. A walk to the beach was a hit with all, playing in the water and sand. Followed by a pinic lunch, a play in the gardens, and an explore through the homestead.
Such a great day, and such a great time of year to go visit Coolart Wetands and homestead. Well, you can choose your friends but you can't choose your weather. We attempted a walk along the beach however we got "weathered" out! A lunch in the safty of the rotunda was "Bus load of school kided" out. In the end we just gave up and went back to Karen's fun a picnic under the apple trees and a great afternoon of play!
Yay spring is definitely here. Time to come out of hibernation and get out there. I have just listed loads of of walks (Thank you Kim for your list of suggestions) and we are out every Monday for the next few months. Hope you can join us.
Karen & I are working on some excursions that will be coming up soon, keep checking and I also plan on doing some work on website and adding some info and stuff - stay tuned. We seem to be so lucky with the weather on our nature walks, another lovely sunny winters day. We found loads of different fungi and Josh & Harmony took some great photos. A great spot for a walk, save your energy for the climb back up the slope that donest look that bad but had us all huffing & puffing. Greenhood orchids are out in abundance.
If your coming on our Nature Walks dont forgot the weather doesnt stop us, we bring jackets and beanies and still get out there and discover what we can. Mushrooms and Orchids coming out now and plenty of fun to be had in all seasons.
Our second week and Pete took the bus out today to explore a couple of different local beaches with the group. The kids and Mums attending had a great time, I'm sure Pete did too. My boys came home with a bag half filled with shells and other treasures - love it.
Finally I have put up a list of nature walks and dates, meet us there and bring your journals etc...
Yes, camp was awesome, we had a fantastic but exhausting time. The kids were amazing with how much they got into it, everyone had a natural journal and many had started working on it already. The enthusiasm was great, so much drawing and sharing of what they had discovered and what had taken there interest. Pete as a trained teacher was particularly impressed with how engaged the kids where with what they were doing, I loved seeing them share what they had journalled and what they had seen on different adventures.
I loved how they would just start journalling together without anyone suggesting it and then how they loved showing and sharing what they had done. We learnt a few things, in the end we had to bring 2 educators due to Parks Vic restrictions and having to get a tour operators lisense but it worked out for the best. So we ran at a loss this time round but were prepared to do so to learn what we needed to learn. So unfortunately prices will have to increase but we will have a couple more activities and another hub, a chillout/social hub for parents to catch up and kids to relax and journal, view the library of books and natural treasures we had for display at any time they want. We will also get hold of some surf boards for campers to use(under parental supervision), we will add African drumming workshop(fortunately Trav's drumming teacher/friend is an expert and has been to Africa to learn the style) and we will have a little Wildthings kit/bag for all children participating with there own binoculars, magnifying glass etc. Astronomy too - seen as the s |
